Teens Need Sleep, So Why Not Start School Later
Most high schools in the United States begin the school day early, often before the first rays of the sun peek over the horizon. The average start times range state by state from 7:40 a.m. (Louisiana) to 8:33 a.m.(Alaska). The reason for such early hours can be traced back to the suburban sprawl of the 1960s and 1970s that increased the distances between schools and homes. Students could no longer walk or ride bicycles to school. Suburban school districts responded to these shifts by providing bus transportation. The pick-up/drop-off times for students were staggered so the same fleet of buses could be used for all grades. High school and middle school students were assigned the earlier start, while elementary students were picked up once the buses had completed one or two rounds. The economic decisions for staggered transportation made years ago are now being countered by a growing body of medical research that simply states that schools should start later because teens need sleep. The Research For the past 30à years, there has been a growing body of research that has documented the biologically different sleep and wake patterns of teenagers compared to younger students or adults. The biggest difference between adolescent and other sleep patterns is in circadian rhythms, which the National Institute of Health defines as the physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle.â⬠Researchersà have found that these rhythms, which respond primarily to light and darkness, differ among different age groups. In one of theà early (1990) studies Patterns of Sleep and Sleepiness in Adolescents, Mary A. Carskadon, a sleep researcher at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, explained: ââ¬Å"Puberty itself imposes a burden of increased daytime sleepiness with no change in nocturnal sleepâ⬠¦. Development of circadian rhythms may also play a role in the phase delay teenagers commonly experience. The primary conclusion is that many adolescents do not get enough sleep.â⬠Acting on the basis of that information, in 1997, seven high schools in the Minneapolis Public School District decided to delay the start time of seven comprehensive high schools to 8:40 a.m. and extend the dismissal time to 3:20 p.m. The results of this shift were compiled by Kyla Wahlstrom in her 2002 report Changing Times: Findings From the First Longitudinal Study of Later High School Start Times. The initial results of the Minneapolis Public School District were promising: The attendance rates for all students in grades 9, 10, and 11 improved in the years from 1995 to 2000.The high school students continued to get an hour more sleep on school nights. The increased sleep continued four years into the change.Students got five more hours of sleep per week than did peers in schools that started earlier. By February 2014, Wahlstrom also released the results of a separate three-year study. This review focused on the behaviors of 9,000 students attending eight public high schools in three states: Colorado, Minnesota, and Wyoming. Those high schools that started at 8:30 a.m. or later showed: 60% of students got at least eight hours of sleep per school night. Those teens with fewer than eight hours of sleep reported significantly higher depression symptoms, greater use of caffeine, and a greater risk for substance use. There was a positive improvement in grades earned in core subject areas of math, English, science, and social studies. There was a statistically significant increase in the 1st-period grade point average in core subject areas. There was a positive improvement in academic performance on state and national achievement tests. There was a positive improvement in attendance rates and reduction in tardiness. There was a significant 70% decrease in the number of car crashes (Wyoming) during the first year for teen drivers from 16 to 18 years of age.The number of car crashes overall decreased by an average of 13%. The last statistics on teen car crashes should be considered in broader context. A total of 2,820 teenagers ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes in 2016, according to the Insurance Institute of Highways Safety. In many of these crashes, sleep deprivation was aà factor, causing reduced reaction times, slower eye movements, and a limit on the ability to make quick decisions. All of these results reported by Wahlstrom, confirm the findings of Dr. Daniel Buysse who was interviewed in the 2017 New York Times article ââ¬Å"The Science of Adolescent Sleepâ⬠by Dr. Perri Klass. In his interview, Buysse noted that in his research on adolescent sleep, he found that an adolescentââ¬â¢s sleep drive takes longer to build up than it did in childhood, ââ¬Å"They donââ¬â¢t reach that critical level of sleepiness till a later time at night.â⬠That shift into a later sleep cycle creates a conflict between the biological need for sleep and the academic demands of the earlier school schedule. Buysse explained that this is why the advocates for a delayed start believe an 8:30 a.m. (or later) start time improves studentsââ¬â¢ chances of success. They argue that teenagers cannot focus on difficult academic tasks and concepts when their brains are not fully awake.à Problems in Delaying Start Times Any move to delay the start of schools will require school administrators to confront well-established daily schedules. Any change will affect the schedules of transportation (bus), employment (student and parent), school sports, and extracurricular activities. Transportation Concerns: Early start times were implemented in order for school districts to provide bus transportation using the same buses for elementary and high school students. Aà later start time for high schools could require additional buses or earlier elementary school start times.à Parental Supervision: In a delayed start, there may be parents of high school students who will no longer be able to drive students to school and get to work on time. This shift would mean high school students would have the responsibility of getting themselves ready for school. If elementary schools start earlier, however, the dismissal time will be earlier as well, and that may require more hours of after-school daycare. At the same time, parents of elementary students would be able to start work earlier and not worry about before school daycare.Sports or Extracurricular Activities: For students who participate in sports or other extracurricular activities, a delayed start will mean later these activities will end several hours after school. The later hours could limit the available time for study, homework, and social activities. Coordination of sports schedules with other schools in area leagues or divisions would be difficult unless all other participating schools also delayed sports schedules. The available hours of daylight would limit outdoor practice for fall and spring sports unless costly lighting was provided. Community use of school facilities would be delayed as well.à Employment: Many students work to save money for college or another career related goal. Some students have internships. Employers of teens would have to adjust the work schedules for students if school dismissal times were to change. Should elementary schools begin earlier, there would be a need to increase afterschool daycare opportunities. High school students, however, would not be available to work in a daycare for the first hour or two. Policy Statements For districts that are considering a delayed start, there are powerful statements of support from the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The voices of these agencies argue that these early start times may contribute to poor attendance and a lack of focus on academic tasks. Each group has made recommendations that schools should not begin until after 8:30 a.m. The AMAà adopted a policy during its Annual Meeting in 2016 which gave their endorsement to encourage reasonable school start times that allow students to get sufficient sleep. According to AMA Board Member William E. Kobler, M.D. there is evidence that suggests appropriate sleep improves health, academic performance, behavior, and general well-being in adolescents. The statement reads: ââ¬Å"We believe delaying school start times will help ensure middle and high school students get enough sleep, and that it will improve the overall mental and physical health of our nations young people. Similarly, the American Academy of Pediatrics supports the efforts of school districts to set start times forà students the opportunity to get 8.5ââ¬â9.5 hours of sleep. They list the benefits that come with starting later with examples: physical (reduced obesity risk) and mental (lower rates of depression) health, safety à (drowsy driving crashes), academic performance, and quality of life. The CDCà reached the same conclusion and supports the AAP by stating, ââ¬Å"A school system start time policy of 8:30 a.m. or later provides teenage students the opportunity to achieve the 8.5ââ¬â9.5 hours of sleep recommended by AAP.â⬠Additional Research Some studies have found a correlation between teen sleep and crime statistics. One such study,à published (2017) in The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, stated that, ââ¬Å"The longitudinal nature of this relationship, controlling for age 15 antisocial behavior, is consistent with the hypothesis that adolescent sleepiness predisposes to later antisociality.â⬠In suggesting that sleep problems really might be the root of the problem, researcher Adrian Raine explained, ââ¬Å"It may be that just educating these at-risk kids with simple sleep-hygiene education might actually make a bit of a dent in the future crime statistics.â⬠Finally, there is promising data from a Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Relationships between hours of sleep and health-risk behaviors in U.S. adolescent students (McKnight-Eily et al., 2011) showed eight or more hours of sleep illustrated a kind of à ââ¬Å"tipping pointâ⬠in at-risk behaviors of teenagers. For teens who slept eight or more hours each night, the use of cigarette, alcohol, and marijuana declined by 8% to 14%. In addition, there was a à 9% to 11% drop in depression and sexual activity. This report also concluded that school district must have a greater awareness of how sleep insufficiency impacts student academic performance and social behaviors. Conclusion There is ongoing research providing information on the impact of delaying school starts for adolescents. As a result, legislatures in many states are considering later start times.à These efforts to gain the support of all stakeholders are being made in order to respond to the biological demands of adolescents. At the same time, the students may be agreeing with the lines about sleep from Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Macbeth that could be part of an assignment: ââ¬Å"Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care,The death of each dayââ¬â¢s life, sore labours bath.Balm of hurt minds, great natures second course,Chief nourisher in lifes feastâ⬠(Macbeth 2.2:36-40)

SEC Regulations The U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is in place to ensure that people who invest in publicly traded companies are protected, and that an efficient market is maintained in a fair and orderly fashion. The SEC has put in place several laws and rules to ensure that all investors have access to certain financial information before they buy stock in a company. This information is to remain public and readily available as long as the company is publicly traded. This means that the companies that are publicly traded must disclose this financial and other related information to anyone who requests it. Most companies have it posted online on their company website. These rules and laws ensure that investors are making informed decisions both before they buy stock and the entire time they are owners of company stock. Every year, the SEC finds companies who are in violation of the rules they have in place. Some companies will neglect their duty to post their annual financial data, or they may manipulate the data that they post. These violations can be viewed as insider trading, account fraud, or purposefully misleading company shareholders. Those companies who are found guilty of these types of offenses face serious fines against the company, and may include jail time for the people who manipulated the data. Disney is a publicly traded company, and as such, is expected to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the SEC. To comply with the regulations, Disney has made available all of the required annual financial statements on their company website. Disneyââ¬â¢s Financial Performance | | | The Walt Disney Company has several different operations: media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, customer products and interactive media (Disney,à 2010). Based upon Disneyââ¬â¢s 2009 and 2010 financial statements, we have calculated these key ratios: Key ratios:| 2010| 2009| Current ratio| 1. 11| 13. 31| Debt ratio| 0. 90| 0. 08| Average collection period| 55. 46| 49. 01| Return on equity| 0. 11| 0. 10| Disneyââ¬â¢s revenues increased on 2010 compared to 2009. The overall liquidity of the company was better on 2009. On 2010 Disney acquired a bigger debt because of the current financial crisis. They took a bigger risk by doing this, but the risk turned into a positive outcome. Their collection period extended more in 2010, but this allow them to generate more businesses as suppose they would have kept a more extract payment regiment. Disney managed its resources efficiently, making a bigger profit on 2010 than they did on the previous year. Between all of their operations, some more popular than others, they could produce a higher profit margin on 2010. They also focused on the new trends such as technology, and product globalization, to stay competitive and profitable. Disney has adapted to the economy changes and taken risks in order to keep up with the competition and to maintain the business growth. 2009 was more stable and secure in every aspect, but the risk taken was necessary to increase the companyââ¬â¢s profit. Conclusion The Disney Corporation is a company that has been publically traded for many years, and has grown to be one of the largest companies that is publically raded. The company strives to follow the regulations set forth by the SEC so that stockholders in the company can easily make sound decisions regarding their shares of stock. Most recently, the annually pa id dividend increased by 50% for the 2011 fiscal year. Issues in Human Capital and Its Measurement
Question: Discuss about the Issues in Human Capital and Its Measurement. Answer: Introduction A nations culture influences and modifies all the aspects of life which consequently counts in accounting. Culture and the issues associated with it have a significant influence on the judgments of an accountant while interpreting or applying their accounting skills in the field. Culture has the capacity to permeate the values and attitudes within a human mind, and therefore is able to govern the aspects of human behavior, affecting accounting choice behaviors. Cultural values influence and restrain the application and enforcement of accounting standards. It can also determine the choices of behavior and techniques that accountants adopt in discharging their duties. Cultural values influence the way auditors execute audit assignments. Instead of sacrificing the quality to be delivered by an accountant it is important for the adoption of favorable IFRS/Global Reporting Standard by the AASB. Implications of this issue include transparency, conservativeness in measuring accounting value s, and secrecy in disclosure (Nurunnabi 2015). Accounting systems are at the same time affected by the background where different entities function and by the organizational culture present in each business unit. Apart from the standards and different accounting policies applicable in different countries, everything else is supposed to be the same; however, that is not the case. The accounting standards and rules written as practices are implemented differently across different cultures because of the different ways in which businesses develop. Business relationships, on the other hand are built differently due to the both internal and external factors that vary from country to country. Since laws across different countries vary according to the political and economic climate, the development of accounting standards and accounting practices is extremely shaped and directed by the culture in which it is practiced (Tartaraj and Hoxha 2014). A competence based approach towards the accounting profession would help the professionals meet the relevant knowledge and capabilities expected from them in their profession. It is important for every accounting to be able to enunciate and elucidate the requirements of the profession. Competitiveness would be a good tactic to sustain valuable and high-performing employees at their high always. Additionally, a strategic performance reward system would help accounting professionals with motivation and grow profits for the organization. Defined desired performance objectives in terms of actionable items and tangible goals from the managements side would drive an accountants performance and satisfaction level. Moreover, accounting tools and software like Xero, QuickBooks and Sage One would help them further (Ward 2012). The benefits and values of accounting tools and techniques are huge, and comes with assured effectiveness. It is the responsibility of accountants in an organization to take part in the monitoring and designing of polices, and auditors deal with providing assurance about the implementation of supply chain standards. Proficient accountants going about as auditors are probably going to find that it is useful to survey the application and consequences of the engagement procedure, without essentially getting to be straightforwardly included in such discussion. It is their responsibility to maintain benchmarking via reliable and relevant data (Ng, Leung and Lo 2017). References Ng, A.W., Leung, T.C. and Lo, J.M., 2017. Private School Scandals and Controversies
Private School Scandals and Controversies à Every school, public or private, has had its share of unpleasant news. With many private schools and boarding schools having histories that span hundreds of years, its highly likely that in some fashion, each school has some skeletons in its closets. Public schools have scandals, too, but private schools tend to be the focus of the media because of their independent status and tuition rates. What kind of scandals happen at schools? Everything from bullying and hazing to sexual misconduct and embezzlement scandals. Each school will handle the scandals in their own way, but the goal is to protect the victims, the other students, and faculty at the school, and the schools reputation.à The most recent headlines have involved sex abuse scandals at private schools, and with many of these institutions dating back hundreds of years, very few have squeaky clean pasts.à Many of these scandals that hit the media are the result of past actions being brought to light years later, in some cases decades later. The schools that handle these cases the best are those that provide support for their students and alumni and work to ensure that their campuses today are safe and supportive for students.à Background checks, particularly for staff and faculty, are common practice in most schools today. Even the best schools are sometimes met with controversy. Its the way a school deals with these crises that is the best measure of its competence. The best ones recognize how important it is to deal with bad news promptly. They know that the Internet, including social media, and cell phones will spread rumors as quickly as you can text your classmates. They also know that members of the media are lurking just waiting for some juicy morsel about an elite school to surface, so they can fan the flames of indignation and mock self-righteousness. Scandals are not limited to private schools, though, and can be found at schools of all kinds, including public schools and even top colleges and universities. The safety of students is the utmost concern of school officials, and most schools take swift and serious action when transgressions are discovered. Heres a brief look at some incidents which have occurred in private schools over the years. Blog about Public Relations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Blog about Public Relations - Essay Example This is what ethics commands. But take for instance one would like to get votes from people and yet his score card is very low. He or she might resort to propaganda as a PR tool. He will boast of projects he or she did not initiate and in the end people might trust him. The politicians might also say false information about their opponents in order to gain political mileage. Though unethical it might lower the PR of the opponent. Governments may also resort to unethical means in order to maintain their PR. They may promise things they know they cannot fulfill. For example, the government may promise to employ all its citizens in the period of about three years when it well knows this is not possible. This would be propaganda which is unethical but it really works in most cases. Ethics means doing the right thing. Every government or organizations needs to employ ethics in its undertakings in order to raise their public relations. Public relation is how an individual, organization, or government is perceived by others. It is a communication tool. Some individuals, organizations have resorted to propaganda in order to raise their public relations but this discussion argues otherwise (Moloney, 2006). It is important to give the right information in order to raise your public relations. Let us for example take a business organization. The business may try to give false information about their products in order to realize higher sales. This might work at the start but as people realize they might shun away from such a business. This will lower the public image of such an organization. It is just important to do everything ethically in the business and this will help raise your business PR (Campbell and Scaife, 1998). Governments must also do the right things in order to raise their PR. A government may fool its citizens once, twice but not forever. Once the people

TQM IMPELEMENTION Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
TQM IMPELEMENTION - Essay Example The leaders rely on the assumption that punishment and reward modes are the most effective motivators at a work place. They actively engage in rewarding hardworking workers in a given organization without understanding the need of engaging in such activity (Edwards, 1994). Severe punishment measures introduced at the work place, for instance, in a given organization to curb the act of laziness, therefore, ensuring almost equal output in the organization. Such an assumption positively boasts the general outcome of the organization without the leaderââ¬â¢s knowledge of it. The leaders engage in optimizing every process area in an organization, which leads to the optimization of the entire organization with time thus ensuring growth and stability in an organization. The managers or leaders, further, engage in the assumption that better results achieved by setting specific objectives within the organization. The set objectives within an organization foster stiff competition among work ers at the workplace to ensure the set objectives attained thus brings positive success in the organization. ... Further, competition as an assumption steps in because it is a necessary aspect in the day to day life. Managers who fail to accept that competition in a given organization cannot be avoided fail to effectively manage their organizations to the required standards. With this in place, the managers require a theory to act as a guide in order to realize the importance of quality management, as stated in the above assumptions, for the success of their organizations in the future market place. According to Edwards Deming theory of profound management, called the system of profound knowledge, the theory explores the current style of management undergoing revolution. It further explores the system of profound knowledge, which provides a map of theory to understand in details the organization we work for. The theory relates to the above discussion because it focuses on the transformation of an individual in a given organization in order to continuously teach other people, to become a good li stener, and help people to pull away from their current beliefs and practices. The Edwards Deming theory of system of profound knowledge directed to the leaders or managers in a given organization basing on the assumptions provided (Edwards, 1994). The profound knowledge appeals to managers or leaders appearing in four parts, such as in psychology, variation knowledge, system appreciation, and theory of knowledge practice. A manager needs to fully understand the four parts of the profound knowledge in order to fully apply in the process of transforming from the present Western management style to that of optimization. The four parts of the profound knowledge cannot be separated thus should work hand in hand for

Googles dilemma Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Googles dilemma - Case Study Example When Larry Paige and Sergie Brian hit upon the idea in 1998, the concept of search engine was still vague. Thus, Googleââ¬â¢s success lies in tapping the search engine space and as it grew exponentially; it had to evolve into some kind of structured organization if it had to maintain its astounding growth rate. Summary of the situation: The tile of the case about the ââ¬Å"dilemmaâ⬠faced by Google is how to motivate and energize its young staff while maintaining a semblance of formalized structures. The key is to incubate new ideas in an organization while having some sort of bureaucratic structures in place to sustain its growth. SWOT The strength of Google is innovation and the workforce that prides itself on being ââ¬Å"geekyâ⬠but resents formalized structures. Google derives its main strength from the way in which employees use their spare time to sound off on potential ideas that can be the ââ¬Å"next big thingâ⬠. The weakness of Google lies in the way in which it is grappling with establishing formal governance structures. This is a classic dilemma faced by many technology companies: How to grow without making the workforce feel that are part of an ââ¬Å"impersonalâ⬠and ââ¬Å"mechanicalâ⬠organization. Googleââ¬â¢s opportunity is the ever growing web applications market that has seen it grow at an annualized rate of around 30% over the last few years. The vitality and creativity of the workforce is another area of opportunity. Finally, the threat to Google is two-fold: potential start-ups like cuil.com that were started by ex-Google employees and can eat into its search engi ne market. Second, the rising headcount that now stands at over 6,000 can make it a victim of its own success. Recommendations: it is recommended that Googleââ¬â¢s management team inculcate a spirit of structure and formalized communication channels instead of the ââ¬Å"collegeâ⬠atmosphere that

Judas :: essays research papers
Ever since you told me what your YL leader said, I have been studying it. Once I got into the word, I realized that I had dealt with this topic before, when our leader was ââ¬Å"testingâ⬠our response to ââ¬Å"questions of contradiction.â⬠This is what I have concluded. First of all, notice that the text does not say that Judas died as a result of hanging. All it says is that he "went and hanged himself." Luke however, in Acts, tells us that "and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out." This is a pretty clear indication (along with the other details given in Acts - Peter's speech, the need to pick a new apostle, etc.) that at least after Judas' fall, he was dead. So the whole concept that Matthew and Luke both recount Judas' death is highly probable, but not clear cut. Notice verse 5..."Then he...went and hanged himself." Matthew does not state death as being a result. The Greek word used is APAGCHO. Matthew 27:5 is it's only occurrence in the New Testament. In the LXX (the Greek translation of the OT used at the time of Jesus), it's only used in 2 Samuel 17:23 : ââ¬Å"Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his hou se, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father's tomb.â⬠Notice that not only is it stated that Ahithophel "hanged himself" [APAGCHO], but it explicitly adds, "and died". Here we have no doubt of the result. In Matthew, we are not explicitly told Judas died. Also, there is nothing in the Greek to suggest success or failure. It simply means 'hang oneself'". So, my line of reasoning to dispel the contradiction myth is that the "two" accounts of Judas' death is this...Matthew doesn't necessarily explain how Judas died; he does say Judas "hanged himself", but he didn't specifically say Judas died in the hanging incident. However, Acts seems to show us his graphic demise. Therefore, there is no contradiction between Matthew and Acts, more specifically the death of Judas. So what happened to Judas? Well my opinion is that only God knows, but this is what I personally believe (there are many other theories of how Judas died, but it is such an unimportant topic when placed to the gospel as a whole, but know that the Bible is ERROR-FREE and any conclusion must be biblically based).

Examine some of the ways in which Marxists explain crime Essay
One way in which Marxists examine crime is the idea that they feel crime is inevitable in capitalism because capitalism in itself is criminogenic. Due to capitalism being based on exploiting the working class by using them as a means of making profit, this is therefore damaging to the working class and arguably explains why crime is committed. Due to the exploitation of the working class, which may lead to poverty and in some cases the only way to survive poverty, is by using crime in order to feed and clothe families. Crime may also be the only way the working class can compete in this world of consumer goods, encouraged by capitalist advertising, resulting in theft and robbery. Lastly the lack of control the working class have on their lives due to being controlled by their capitalist bosses and government can lead to frustration in the working class which in some situations can only be vented through violent crimes and vandalism. However this theory is floored as not all crime is committed by the working class and this theory does not take into account white collared crime such as tax fraud, therefore Gordon argues that crime is a rational response to the capitalist system and is therefore found in all social classes, even if the statistics say otherwise. Another Marxist idea that helps explain crime is Selective Enforcement. This is the idea that some Marxist do except that crime is widespread over all classes but the way in which the criminal justice system is applied, is unfair against those in working class and ethnic minorities. Whereas crime committed by the elite is ignored and treated with less severity. This is shown in Reimanââ¬â¢s book ââ¬Å"The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Prisonâ⬠the book shows that there is a disproportionally high rate of prosecutions against crime associated with the working class such a burglary and assault whereas crime typically committed by the rich such as tax evasion is treated with a more forgiving view in the justice system. This is could be argued to be due to the fact that people whom are more likely to commit tax fraud are affluent and therefore may have links in the justice system and can afford top lawyers. Neo Marxists are sociologist whom have been influenced by many ideas of traditional Marxists. Taylor agrees with agrees with the following Marxists theories on crime such as, the idea that capitalism exploits the working class, that the state enforces laws to benefit the higher classes and that capitalism should be replaced with a classless state in order for crime rates to decrease. However Taylor feels that that traditional Marxists are deterministic , for example traditional Marxists feel that workers commit crimes out of economic necessity. Whereas neo Marxists such as Taylor are anti-determinism and therefore feel that the reason why many of the working class commit crime is due to external factors such as anomie, subcultures and labelling. Due to this voluntarism view of the causes of crime, Taylor feels the working class arenââ¬â¢t just crime committing puppets and takes a micro approach to causes and looks at individual cases and argues whether external factors such as abu se at young age have taken on effect as to why crime is committed.

Video Production essays
Video Production essays Video production is something I have been doing for approximately 5 years now and I continue working with it as a hobby and a part time business. The field of video production is growing rapidly in many exciting and new ways, one of which is film now undoubtedly film is larger than any time it has ever been, it is no longer the way it use to be where the story and the direction were the main aspects of making a hit. New technology has led to new advances in film such as 3d Animation and sound production, movies now are rated for things like sound quality and production, special effects and quality of production where a few decades ago a good flick became a good flick because of the way it was filmed and the story it told. In other ways video production has been growing technologically as well as artistically, it is becoming more and more competitive to make a good video for even simple businesses like those who film events. In my field I film events like weddings and engagements, and believe it or not even though it doesnt sound like such a huge job, I believe that the minimum budget for such a business lies somewhere around fifty thousand dollars, most of which would be spent on a six thousand dollar camera, a three to six thousand dollar editing station and that is not counting miscellaneous equipment like batteries and tape. Why tape you ask? Well DV and MiniDV is becoming a standard format which you can use over and over as if it were a hard drive, well in a sense it is because unlike the conventional VHS tapes that record picture magnetically on a strip of tape, DV records or better said encodes data on tape in a similar way as a floppy would, which is the very reason why the quality is so good. Besides having an eye for video and knowing what to do when looking through a viewfinder, pretty much being your own director/camera man it takes a good amount of skill and artistic qualities to edit and pr...

The story of Reggie Kelsey Essay Example
The story of Reggie Kelsey Essay Example The story of Reggie Kelsey Essay The story of Reggie Kelsey Essay Problem Background While reading the true narrative of Reggie Kelsey it appeared that there were many psychological, biological, and societal facets that lead to his concluding result, decease by self-destruction. This paper will concentrate on the sociological facet of what led Reggie to worsen in society, was merely that Reggie aged out of surrogate attention. Three and a half months after he aged out of surrogate attention Reggie was found dead in Des Moines River. Foster attention, though a impermanent arrangement for young persons, until they reach 18 old ages old was the one conclusive factor that kept Reggie alive. Foster attention, a societal bureau, was involved in supplying societal services that were to finally fix Reggie for passage into dependence ; these minutess should be viewed as a macro systems job. Reggie was pushed out into the universe without possessing the accomplishments that would hold kept him alive because there was a clip allocation on how long he could utilize the services of surrogate attention. Though Reggie had a assisting web it was weak, and he lacked several resources that would hold kept him from being stateless and from decease. Though young persons who age out of Foster attention are seen as regular teens, most of them lack the stableness of household, nutrient, and shelter that a normal adolescent would hold. In phase five of Erikson s psychosocial development, which involves the passage period from childhood to adolescence where they set up their individuality ; it is clear that Reggie s inability to incorporate his function into his new environment after aging out, suffered and left him uncertain about his individuality. Aging out of Foster attention when non developmentally ready left Reggie without power, get bying accomplishments to accommodate, constru ction, and rigorous supervising needed for endurance, particularly for a individual with an IQ degree that considered him to be mentally delayed. Literature Review Imagine one twenty-four hours holding a strong, good connected supportive web that kept you life and the following twenty-four hours that system wantonnesss you. Harmonizing to Atkinson ( 2008 ) about 20,000 young person age out of and issue Foster attention each twelvemonth, and the bulk of them face challenges because they have been abandoned by the lone support system they know ( p. 187 ) . Avery and Freundlich ( 2009 ) reported that many youth lack societal support, economic resources, and independent life accomplishments which cause them to be less inclined to go successful grownups. Avery and Freundlich farther noted that surrogate attention support, which provides lodging, fiscal support, and a scope of wellness, instruction and other needed services, typically ends when young person are developmentally unprepared to presume full grownup functions and duties ( p. 248 ) . Youth like Reggie Kelsey who age out foster attention because of some type of disregard or maltreatment are more likely to hold jobs organizing positive interpersonal relationships, reduced educational attainment, increased delinquent behaviour, and prosecute in bad behaviour ( Atkinson, 2008, p. 183 ) . They merely find it hard transitioning from one societal environment to another, with important jobs hindering their manner to going successful grownups. When aging out of Foster attention, youth experience challenges such as homelessness, unemployment, and miss a support system. All the challenges from aging out of surrogate attention generated Reggie s symptoms that led him to go self-destructive. Atkinson ( 2008 ) explained that keeping successful lodging nowadayss a important barrier for young persons after emancipation from surrogate attention puting them on an frequently irreversible way to failure ( p. 188 ) . Since Reggie did non hold stable lodging when he aged out of Foster attention, he was non under a changeless supervising that could hold kept him alive. Bing homeless is non an ideal state of affairs for any individuals, but for striplings peculiarly it leads to holding individuality diffusion, where they suffer from a serious deficiency of way and ability to do sound determination. Chronic emphasis has been found to negatively impact acquisition, memory, and executive operation ( Avery and Freundlich, 2009, p. 251 ) . Homelessness can besides viewed as great stressor and coupled with psychological variables are facets that lead to suicide in adolescence. Unemployment pestilences youths that age out of Foster attention significantly to where they end up involved in condemnable activity, in poorness, or on public aid. Bing unemployed can be a blow to an adolescence self-importance because they are non able to back up themselves they result to condemnable activity to take attention of themselves, or experience like life is non deserving life. Populating more independently was the most common life state of affairs for immature people who remained in the Foster attention system after age 18 old ages. Harmonizing to Atkinson ( 2008 ) Close to two-thirds of grownups in their mid-twentiess receives economic support from their parents ( Atkinson, 2008, p. 193 ) . In the instance of Reggie, he had no support fiscal support from parents, he was on his ain, and with small to no employment skills it would demo that the odds were genuinely stacked against him. Avery and Freundlich believed independent life is merely non a executable option for the bulk of young person in surrogate attention who lack the societal staging of stable household and community webs ( p. 253 ) . Reggie may hold had a assisting web that worked within the societal service system but he lacked the connexions that a province based system provides. In the absence of a distinguishable societal web for Foster young person aging out of attention resolutely infer unacceptable subsequent Foster attention results. Young person that age out of surrogate attention already experience sense of impotence, and hopelessness, and as they move towards independency they still need a societal environment to fall back on ; they can non make it all by themselves particularly at 18. Discussion 1- Ethical motives Though aging out foster care young persons when they are non independently developed violates several NASW codifications of moralss, the two that chiefly led to Reggie s death are subdivisions 1.14 and 1.16. In subdivision 1.14 it states when societal workers act on behalf of clients who lack the capacity to do informed determinations, societal workers should take sensible stairss to safeguard the involvements and rights of those clients . By aging out Reggie, who was mentally handicapped, the Foster attention system took away his basic right to boom. The procedure of aging out foster care young persons who are unable to do sound determinations without supplying extended attention after is unethical. In subdivision 1.16 it categorizes when it is acceptable to end services for a client. There is one important factor that correlates to all young person aging out of Foster attention, and in this factor, B, it states that societal workers should take stairss to avoid abandoning services, withdraw merely under unusual fortunes, and carefully see all factors doing certain to minimise inauspicious effects . With this statement it can be visualized that when make up ones minding to age out a young person there is no consideration taken to antagonize any of these factors. The fatal determiner that young person face when aged out is that the young person have to confront several inauspicious factors. In Reggie s state of affairs at that place could be minimum duty placed on him ensuing in his concluding result, but merely if person was seeking to attend attending from their unethical errors. In subdivision 1.14 vehemently relates to Reggie and sets aside those minimum errors, because as a mentally handicapped kid he relied to a great extent on the provinces determinations to safeguard his life. In the terminal the province aged Reggie out at 18 which is non unusual ; this is non an age that needfully attest to the fact that a individual is ready for all that accompanies maturity. Discussion 2- Practice A 2007 article in the diary, Child A ; Adolescent Social Work, examines the pattern issues for adolescents aging out of Foster attention ( Scannapieco, Connell-Carrick, A ; Painter, 2007 ) . The Foster young person stated, surrogate young person and sub-systems involved with surrogate young person after they age out discussed three really of import pattern subjects that should be addressed. The first subject was to hold a young person focussed pattern ; here foster youth thought the alteration needed was that they wanted to be involved in the decision-making. They expressed how they thought it was disrespectful to them because they were non asked what they thought they were merely told ; unlike an grownup who has the ultimate say in their ain lives. The following subject that young person expressed was a challenge was communicating and coaction. There is a break down in communicating when it came to the sub-systems, with losing of import information and deficiency of accurate cognition about supports and services available. Everyone identified a solution of a demand for one person responsible for easing the coordination of be aftering amongst the sub-systems. The last of import subject suggested was the demand for more skill edifice chances. The young person focal point group felt they were unprepared for independent life and what developing they got they were unable to pattern them before being aged out. They wanted better understanding of their ain wellness and mental wellness demands, besides protagonism for better educational scene. Recommendations There were many different actions the Foster attention system could hold taken to forestall Reggie Kelsey s result. The actions that would hold helped Reggie even if they still aged him out would hold been intense independent life preparation, rigorous follow up meetings with social worker and a proctor, or buddy-system release could hold been incorporated. For an stripling like Reggie with a mild degree of mental disablement preparation is of import ; there needs to be pattern of mundane state of affairss so issues that arise are non uncommon to him. This action helps because if he gets into a state of affairs that he has had preparation he will cognize the best option, but depending on the state of affairs he could be overpowered or influenced by another constituent. A 2nd action of follow up meetings and a proctor could hold helped because the social worker could hold been in tuned to the demands of Reggie. A hebdomadal agenda, so bi-weekly, so monthly, up until he was stable would hold been best. Besides the proctor anklet, or watchband would give the social worker a changeless notation of where Reggie was. This the best program of action for a individual like Reggie even though they may experience like they are on probation it keeps them under rigorous supervising and demands are easy accessed. The last option of a buddy-system where Foster young person are age out in braces is a good option, each individual is has a equal to associate and speak with. This would be helpful though the two are in the same boat and neither is a professional, and one may abandon the other. Mentions Atkinson, M. ( 2008 ) . Criminal Justice Research Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Criminal Justice Research - Essay Example Internal validity is used initially in the crime investigation research process. The decision to support the valid facts by any variable inclusion or exclusion is termed as internal validity while its implementation is the external validity. In other words external validity refers to those results which have very strong results of internally valid tests. (Farrington et al, 2002, p. 13) On the other hand reliability is all those measures which are utilized to achieve and repeat the same set of results acquired in validity. Reliability guarantees and confirms the valid tests to be used ever again in criminal data analysis and findings. Example: Taking all the security measures to prevent women trafficking among rural and urban population may or may not generalize the problem because of the reason that the two populations are clearly different. Therefore the thing that concerns is that women trafficking crime measures in both the populations reacts differently. This can be achieved by testing those measures differently. In case a preventive measure is set in both the populations, its validity would be determined once according to their populations. Afterwards its reliability could be measured each time the standard results meet the acquired 'validity'. The main difference between a valid measure and relia

Alternative energy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Alternative energy - Essay Example The Guinness Atkinson Alternative Energy Fundââ¬â¢s co-manager Edward Guinness says that although wind energyââ¬â¢s use is growing almost at 30 per cent per year, yet the price of energy generated by the wind is competitive with the price of the fossil fuels (Eaves, 2007). Rapid growth in the production and use of solar power is also expected in the near future. Slightly more than 0.1 per cent of the total energy in the world is derived from the solar power through the photovoltaic vells. According to Edward Guinness, use of the solar power can grow to more than 10 per cent in the next two to three decades with the improvement of the manufacturing processes (Eaves, 2007). However, ââ¬Å"[t]here are financial, political, and technical pressures as well as time constraints that will force tough choicesâ⬠(Grunwald, 2009). Therefore, it would take some time for the use of the alternative sources of energy to outperform that of the fossil fuels. The future of energy is more about how than what. ââ¬Å"I think the things that would really blow us away if we could jump forward 20 years would not be the giant fields of windmills, but the 1,000 changes in daily life that have taken place in order to save energyâ⬠(Steffen cited in Eaves, 2007). In the future, the sources of power are expected to get closer to the home. The changes would extend beyond the use of low-energy light bulbs. People would rely more on local energy particularly where the places have abundance of wind, sunshine, and rivers. With the production of energy at the domestic level, there would be flow of energy back and forth within the small infrastructure in the form of power grids that would supply energy two-way i.e. both to and from the homes. The alternative sources of energy have not been utilized to full extent on the Earth to date fundamentally because their supply and use has been expensive and the supply has not met the demands. Although the use of fossil fuels

The Four Natural Physical Spheres Essay Example for Free
The Four Natural Physical Spheres Essay Lithosphere (litho is Greek of stone) The solid, inorganic portion of Earth, comprising the rock of Earths crust as well as the broken and unconsolidated particles of mineral matter that overlie the solid bedrock. The surface is shaped into an almost infinite variety of landforms, both on the seafloors and on the surfaces of the continents and islands. Atmosphere (atmo is Greek of air) The gaseous envelope of air that surrounds Earth. It contains the complex mixture of gases needed to sustain life. Most of this adheres closely to Earths surface, being densest at sea level and rapidly thinning with increased altitude. It is a very dynamic sphere, kept in almost constant motion by solar energy and Earths rotation. Hydrosphere (hydro is Greek for water) Comprises water in all its forms. The oceans contain the vast majority of the water found on Earth and are the moisture source for most precipitation. Biosphere (bio is Greek for life) Encompasses all the parts of Earth where living organisms can exist; in its broadest and loosest sense, the term also includes the vast variety of earthly life forms (properly referred to as biota).

Impact of Agricultural Changes in Goa
Impact of Agricultural Changes in Goa INTRODUCTION Etymologically the term Agriculture is derived as follows ââ¬â ââ¬ËAgriââ¬â¢ means field or soil and ââ¬Ëcultureââ¬â¢ means the care of or tilling. It includes all such human efforts as are conducive to the quick and better growth of vegetables and animal products for the benefit of man. In the last fifty years of liberation, the state has undergone and witnessed in the agriculture sector. At the time of liberation, nearly two third of the population was involved in agriculture as their primary occupation. Paddy was the predominant crop of the state followed by cashew and coconut. The situation now changing and today we have cashew nut which is cultivated in nearly 55,000 Ha with paddy 31,000 Ha. The cultivation of horticulture crops nowadays are gaining importance due to the good returns, lower risk and tolerance of these crop for part time farming are greatly influence. The state of Goa is providing assistance to agriculture at all levels to provide substantial returns to rural people. The Agriculture Department gives assistance for farmer from land preparation of the extent of marketing of the produce. The Department of Agriculture with is head quarter at Tonca, Panaji implements developmental programme through zonal agriculture offices located in each talukas level and training center at district level. Laboratories are set up at district level to test the soil where soil health cards are issued for major and micro Goa being a progressive state, the farmers face tremendous shortage of labor who could work on the fields . The dependence of machine for activities in agriculture is emerging trend. Goan farmers having small land holding and nearly 80% of farmers own less than 1 ha of land. The government preferred smaller machine to farmers and provides financial assistance for such machines. In the state of Goa agriculture is one of the most important economic activity. . Lies between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, to feed its own people Goa faces problems . The coastal areas are exposed to salinity and not suitable for agriculture , while the inland areas are not productive enough. So for its day-to-day needs of agricultural produce like vegetables, Goa is dependent on Karnataka and Maharashtra for its day to day needs of agricultural produce like vegetables. However, approximately one-third of the total land in Goa falls under forest areas and yields substantial profits. The government, however, has done much to improve and develop agriculture in Goa to make it more productive, thus enabling the farmers to get a better return for their labor. Rice and fish being the staple diet of the people, paddy becomes the prominent crop in the scenario of agriculture in Goa. The important crops, besides paddy, are maize, ragi, bajra, jowar and pulses. Cash crops like mango aerecanut jackfruit, banana pineapple, cashew nut coconut, are also grown in abundance. Cashew is one of the most important crop in Goa. One kind of intoxicating drink called Feni is produced from cashew. Sugarcane cultivation has been recent phenomena and a sugar factory has also been set up in Goa. There are different variety of mangoes are grown in Goa. Some of the famous Mango varieties are mancurade, mussarade, fernandine, xavier, alfonsa, colaco. Kapo (hard) and Rasal (soft) are two varieties of jackfruit are grown here. The vegetables that are commonly part of the agriculture in Goa are ladys fingers, radish, brinjol, pumpkins, cucumber, drumsticks, breadfruit and different varieties of gourds. Sweet potatoes, chillies, onions are also available in Goa. Paddy being the principal crop of Goa, it is grown in two seasons, namely Kharif or sorod and the rabi or vaingan. The crops which are grown in monsoon are called the kharif crops and the winter crops are called rabi crops. The main sources of irrigation for winter crops are the nallahs, rivers and streams, tanks, wells and canals. Crops which are grown in the Kharif season consist of paddy, ragi (locally called nachani) and some pulses. Crops grown in the rabi season are comprised of paddy, pulses like horse-gram (kulith), black gram (udid), a variety of beans and some vegetables. However even though one fourth of the population is sustained by agriculture in Goa, it contributes to only 15 to 16 percent to the income of the state. Due to rapid urbanization the availability of agricultural land is reducing. In Goa, shifting cultivation is locally known as Kumeri and it is this form of agriculture that is largely responsible for producing Goas output of nachne, other millets and pulses. However, agriculturally trained farmers, scientists or foresters condemn kumeri cultivation as ecologically damaging and sustained effort have been made by the forest and Agriculture department to discontinue such cultivation. There are basically 5 stages in Kumeri cultivation. Felling an area of forests, fixing the dead vegetation, planting or sowing seeds without the plough, weeding; and eventually harvesting. Though virgin forests give higher yields, kumeri cultivation prefers a secondary forest for cultivation. This is because clearing primary forest is quite an dangerous task, requiring more manpower and demanding a larger drying period for the felled vegetation. In Goa, Kumeri cultivation became a problem for 2 reasons. First, during Portuguese regime, large chunk of hilly areas have been declared a s forests and later by the Goa government thus reducing drastically the Kumeri cycles of the tribals. Secondly forest Department cleared felled forest with in the non-protected areas and converted these to monoculture species of eucalyptus and teak, thereby affecting forest availability to Kumeri cultivation. The elimination of Kumeri cultivation has led to a drastic decline in the availability of millets like nachne which have remained the traditional diet of the economically unprivileged population in Goa. Goa being a small state in area, agricultural land is sometimes used for nonagricultural purposes. Large areas are used to build bus-stands, highways, buildings etc. Being situated in the coastal belt, the real estate industry in Goa has grown much higher during the last few years and the land prices are soaring high, thereby luring the farmers to keep their land fallow and then sell it off for a huge market price. It is also found that the increase in residential area has led t o increased dumping activities which may include mud and rubble. These activities lead to rain water clogging instead of it rushing into the sea. This factor too keeps the farmers from cultivating their lands and they prefer to keep it fallow as improving the drainage can be a very costly affair. Farming in Goa is mainly dependent on the arrival of monsoons. The quality and quantity of cropd by timely required rains . At times the farmers are helpless with the late arrival of monsoons which in turn leads to delayed sowing and thus low yield. At times there is a dry spell which also affects the growth of crops. All this calls for better irrigation facilities. The fact that tourism industry in Goa has flourished, has had its implications on agriculture too. The tourism industry gives more lucrative offers to the present day youth, thus providing them with regular employment. And this aspect leads to the next problem faced by farmers i.e. availability of labour and high labour cost. Wi th the younger generation not wanting to soil their hands in the land and looking out for white collar jobs and green pastures overseas, shortage of labour has led farmers to hire labour from other states. This in turn has increased the cost of farming. The neighbouring states of Goa like Maharashtra and Karnataka have abundant of 4 agricultural activity and thus the agricultural products are low priced. Thus importing these products works out much cheaper than cultivating them. LITERATURE REVIEW According Olekar Ramesh (2008) agriculture has been one of the important part of our economy. There are more than 60% of our people depend upon agriculture for their livelihood. It is a way of life, a tradition; agriculture will continue to be central to all the strategies for socio-economic development of the country. Rapid growth of agriculture will not only ensure continued food security but also aid in growth in industry and the GDP. To maintain growth in agriculture credit plays an important role. The amount of agriculture credit given by the bank to the farmers has increased from over the year. This has been an impressive development in banking credit sector, considering the fact that there are several problems like accessing credit for agriculturist and problem providing loan by the bank. Chand Ramesh et. al (2010) talks about agriculturalproduction and farm income in India involve several risks. One and only mechanism available to safeguard against production risks is crop insurance. For eg.the scheme called as NationalAgriculturalInsuranceScheme(NAIS) operating in the country and has suggested several modifications to make crop insurance more effective. But the coverage of this scheme in terms of crop area, number of farmers and value ofagriculturaloutput is very small. To make agriculture risk management more effective the present level of coverage have to be improved. Such an improvement has financial implication and will have an impact on current insurance practices. Therefore it requires renewed effort on the part of the government in terms of designing appropriate mechanism and providing support in terms of finance.,to agricultural insurance. Kumar and Sameer(2009) focuses on the implementation Kishan Credit Card (KCC)Schemein India. The Government of India consulted with the Reserve Bank of India, and National Bank forAgriculturaland Rural Development to establish KCC. Providing credit support to the farmers through banking system timely and adequately manner is the objective of thescheme. Advantages of thescheme include a full year credit requirement, simplified documentation, and availability of credit for 3 years. Sharma and E. Kumar (2008) reports regarding agriculture related concerns of different Bt cotton farmers those who are not eligible for any benefit under Indias Finance Minister P. Chidambarams Rs. 60,000-crore farm loan waiverscheme. The farmer name Gurram Adi Reddy, hold a view that the real issues behind there non elegibility for any benefit under waver scheme is lack of adequate water power, the timely availability of inputs and fair, remunerative and consistent prices for the produce. Rajkumar P K et. al (2009) talks about of onion and maize growers who have been under Market Intervention Scheme(MIS) in the state of Karnataka by selecting two districts of the state. Dharwad and Gadag. Due to several problems such as procedural complexities the scheme has been delayed payments and the requirement of meeting Fair Average Quality (FAQ) stipulations for the crops. It has also been found that if the procourement centres as farther it is more likely that farmer to go in the open market sale. The study suggest that simplification of procedure making timely payment and increasing the number of procurement centres to cover larger number of farmer under Market Intervenion Scheme This study talk about an important innovation in providing healthcare for the rural poor: the Yeshasvini Health InsuranceSchemefor rural farmers and peasants in Karnataka. This is one of the worlds largest health insuranceschemefor the rural poor, theschemestarted in 2003. So it is designed in a suc h a manner that overcome several obstacles to providing health security for rural populations. In the the second year, the scheme covered about 2.2 million widely dispersed peasant farmers for surgical and out patient care for a low annual premium of approximately US$ 2. According Jana and Sebak Kumar(2011) in India more than 50% are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. Still Indian economy are agrarian economy.60% of the rainfed areas without any source of irrigation. And majority of these areas are covered by marginal farmers and rural poor. Due to lack of irrigation facilities small and marginal farmers are are at risk. There is need for sustainable and innovative forms of irrigation. For eg innovative experiment is happa experiment which is viewed as Integrated Natural Resource Management( INRM) emphasizing both water and soil management. According K. N. Rao(2002) inIndia nearly 2/3rd of the population depends onagriculturefor their livelihood andagricultureis highly depend upon nature, crop insurance has to play the role of a vital institution. Crop insurance alone cannot increase productivity or by providing finance both should increase same time .During the VIIth Five-year plan period, the Comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme was introduce. Though the scheme has shortcomings, farmers received nearly 6 times the premium as claims, but only 5% of the total farming community were covered under this scheme. The National Agricultural InsuranceScheme(NAIS), which replaced CCIS w.e.f. 1999 is an improved version. Just like in other parts of the world the crop insurance programs in India is supported and financed by governments. According Jennifer(2009) In1985 crop insurance scheme is started offering by the government of India with the Comprehensive Crop InsuranceScheme. In the recent years NationalAgricultureInsuranceScheme replaced by comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme. Though it is considered NAIS as an improvement over CCIS it is also flawed scheme just as the CCIS.It is found that Government crop insurance scheme have failed worldwide but India seems to have this reality. S.K. Mishra(2007) claims that rice, wheat, maize, millets and pulses are the major food crops of India where as major cash crops include Oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton, jute mesta, and potatoes. Minor cash crops include Tobacco, chillies, ginger, onion, turmeric, tapioca, sweat potatoes, etc. Plantationcrops includetea, coffee and rubber. 3/4th of the gross area under cultivation is cereals and pulses. This clearly shows that there is increaseinthe percentage area under thecashcropsis discernible. Less than 1% area is under Plantation crops. Among the foodcrops, wheat has highest growth rate followed by maize, rice and pulses. Millets having negative growth rate area. J K Sachdeva(2005) talks about cash crop like tea, coffee, spices, oilseeds, cotton and cashew . They are traditional export items, and India exports 50% cash crops of its total agricultural produce. These items are ready for consumption after some value addition. In industries these items are used as raw material in food. The commodities can be ranked highinhierarchy of demands after food items like wheat and rice. The consumer economic status plays a significant roleintheir demand. The paper analyses the exports of tea, coffee, spices, cotton, oilseeds and cashew byIndia, the growth in the exports after the coming of economic reforms, calculates the changes in export and discusses the relationship between exports, imports and production. According to Richa Kumar(2014) that farmers have limited information and many middlemen create problem in getting higher price for their produce . She gives the example of soybean farmersinMalwa, centralIndia, which is acashcropthat connects farmers to global consumers, this article argues that the very expectation of disintermediationinthe soybean supply chain is misleading.Indias positioninthese global networks puts farmers and intermediariesinMalwainthe position of price receivers: they are unable to influence the global price of soybean or manipulate its local priceinany way.Inthis context, providing price information has negligible impact on the final price obtained by farmers. To bring about potential changes there is a need to find out the waysinwhich power is exercised by various actorsinthe marketplace According Gulati, et . al (2002)Riceis the major food crop of almost 70% of the worlds poor who are stayinginAsia, where more than 90% of worldriceproduction and consumption takes place.Ricetrade liberalization therefore has tremendous implications for poverty. The worldricemarket of the world has been imbalanced partly due to intervention. Poor countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, andIndia not protecting à ¢Ãââ⠬Ãâà rice sectors, the rich countries of East Asia (Japan and Korea), Europe, and the United States heavily support theirriceproducers. This leads to great diversityindomesticriceprice levels, with very high pricesinthe latter countries and very low pricesinthe former. Trade liberalization would thus resultsinflows from these poorer Asian countries to East Asia and Europe. This will be positive effect on poverty, where price of producer will increase. It will also bring about second-round effects (wages, employment, and investment)inexporting countries. Parshuram Samal Rabinarayan Patra(2012) focuses on production lossesinricedue to natural calamities like drought, flood and cycloneinOdisha during period of(1965-66 to 2008-09) by using secondary data. It also tells the coping strategies adopted byfarmerson the basis of primary data collected from 100 affected samplefarmers. The result show heavy losses in riceproduction in calamity years. To earn additional income and smoothen consumption spending in the calamity years coping strategies used by farmers were Migration and shifting to wage workinthe construction sector. Given the impossibility of preventing the occurrence of natural calamities, it is possible to argue that a greater allocation of funds forriceresearch for developingricevarieties is useful to tackle various calamity situations and generation Sathishka k and P. A.Rego(2013) studied about Agriculture in Dakshina Kannada. This paper studies the major trends of agriculture sector in Dakshina Kannada District and also examines the crop diversification in Dakshina Kannada District. Dakshina Kannada is primary an agriculture district of karnataka state. More or less 60% of population of district depends on agriculture for their livelihood. Dakshina Kannada has replaced food grains with non food grains crops like rubber, areca nuts, cashew nuts. The writer concludes by saying that urban migration of agricultural labor and urbanization led to the diversification. According D. N. Patil (2010) It is now understood that the changes in the institutional credit is important factor to bring about development in the farm sector. This is particularly true in areas which could not participate in the process of development. There is an urgent need to increase the institutional credit in the agriculral credit. Therefore to reduce the regional imbalance, new bank branches should be open in rural areas. Narwade S. S. et.al (2009) studied about agricultural performance in the state of Orrisa during the pre and post reform period . in the pre reform period there was decline in both area and yield growth rates. The analysis reveals that in Orissa an yield per hectare of food grain crops have received severe setback during post reform period over the pre reform period. Output of the food grain crops and instability has also significantly increased during post reform. S. A. Sujatha (2010) studied the problems faced by farmers in the existing farming system. That all the categories of farmers facing scarcity of family labor due to involvements in non farm activities and fragmentation of land. Large number of farmers are dependent on rainfall, they are also faced with problems like lack of transportation and marketing facilities.
